Do you have a saving or investing mindset? Describe your style.

I save to invest. I save to spend. I save to save more. Saving has always been a good discipline of mine.

Do you invest actively? Why or why not? If so, what is your approach in a nutshell? What level of risk are you comfortable with?

I do invest actively but it really depends on how much time I have as I like to do my research! When the market is very volatile, I get quite scared off, so I haven’t been very active lately.

Typically, I have a low-risk profile. I have a share portfolio (for this I’m quite passive and take a long-term approach). I have some venture capital investments (mostly due to my previous roles across investing and start-ups). The rest sits in my Blossom account, as I wait to enter the property market. A couple of years ago I bought some crypto and I still have a small portfolio sitting there – just to keep learning and see what happens!

What are some of the money lessons/mistakes you have learned so far? Any milestones/successes you would like to share?

I have learned that I have A LOT more to learn. Some key lessons that stand out include:

- If it sounds too good to be true, it’s too good to be true

- If the price goes down and you still like the opportunity, average down

- It’s all about the people and the management, back GREAT people

- Take your profits (you don’t lose money that way)

- Don’t buy into FOMO and in fact, sell into the news

- Do little bits, often. It adds up!

A mini milestone/success: I had always set myself a savings goal which I hoped to achieve by the age of 30. I was just shy of it by my 30th birthday (November last year) but I have stretched out the deadline and hoping that I can reach it by this November - I’ll still be 30! 😊

What is one of your short-term money goals?

This year for me is quite a big year! I’ve recently joined Blossom full-time. As a Co-Founder, I’m very excited to focus and double down on building what we’ve started. In my personal life, I’m getting married, and we have a bit of travel planned. With a lot going on in the short-term, I’ll be focused on good planning and discipline around my budget!

What are you most likely to splurge on?

Travel! I work hard, and even though I find it hard to switch off at times, I love to visit beautiful places and spend time in some of the world’s most magical spots!

Any resources that have helped you with your money -i.e., books, apps, websites, podcasts?

I’m not a good reader or podcast listener (terrible, I know). Often I work very long days in front of a screen so when I go outside and take a walk or manage to squeeze in some exercise, I like to have my eyes and ears free of content! I typically learn the most from speaking to people – friends and family.

Who are your money role models? What about them inspires you?

There are many people I look up to. When I think about money role models, I appreciate their: dedication, execution, patience, intelligence, integrity.

What’s the best piece of financial advice you’ve been given? Or one piece of financial advice you’d give your younger self?

I’d tell my younger self to follow my gut and learn from the mistakes. Nothing wrong with taking a small risk and losing it, if you learn from it.

And what’s the ultimate money goal you’re working towards?

To buy a property – with a big garden and a veggie patch 😊.
